Academic Programme

BS Nursing (Generic)

A four-year undergraduate degree programme taught over eight semesters. It is the only programme offered at Muzaffarabad College of Nursing.

Programme Overview

What Is BS Nursing (Generic)?

BS Nursing (Generic), often written as BSN, is the standard four-year degree for entry into professional nursing in Pakistan. It is open to students who have completed F.Sc Pre-Medical or an equivalent qualification.

The programme teaches students to care for patients of all ages, in hospitals and in the community. It combines three kinds of learning: the health sciences, nursing theory and supervised clinical practice.

The national curriculum for BS Nursing is prescribed by the Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council (PNMC) and the Higher Education Commission (HEC).

Clinical Education

Learning at the Bedside

Clinical practice is a required part of every BS Nursing programme. Students first learn and rehearse procedures in the laboratory. They then care for patients in clinical settings under the supervision of qualified staff.

Clinical learning develops the abilities that cannot be taught from a book: observing a patient closely, giving care safely, recording it accurately and working within a team.

Details of clinical placements for MCN students will be published on this page when they are confirmed.

Career Opportunities

Where Nursing Can Lead

  • Hospital nursing in medical, surgical, paediatric, emergency and critical care units.
